@Tsalnor
To draw a contrast between a goddess of reincarnation, and their antithesis, a goddess of undeath. To show how both deities treat humans in vastly different ways, while still caring for them.
I understand that Will could very well have not been a reincarnated human, or from another world altogether, but it paints a better picture of his relationship or bond to not only Gracefeel, but to this new world he finds himself in as well.
I’m not sure if this is good or not. Personally I don’t like it.
But this has received high ratings and praises. Almost as popular as Overlord.
But the MC personality infuriated me so much. He never behaved his “Mental Age” but literally worst then a stupid kid...
He masterbates on someone he considers his “Mother”. The father merely knuckles sandwiches him and keep a promise man-man. Like a father finding his son porn stash. But it’s still weird as this is someone he sees as his Mother! Who feels stimulated from the one who raised them? Not only that he behaves extremely emotional and rash. If he paused and think over just a little bit... He could had avoided the tragedy on his parents. The Old Wizard warned MC to fake it and postpone his “coming of age ceremony”. He simply lashed out on the old man.
But then again looking back, he never truly possessed his previous life but fragmented memories so it did not influence him completely. Just made him stronger and more courages then others.
@UnknownSaint111 well I think Overlord is edgy bullshit with an unpleasant fanbase that mistakes its childish cruelty for maturity and vehemently attacks anyone who disagrees, whereas this work is fantastic. As to your complaints, I felt no incongruencies with Will's action at any point during the prologue arc, given the mysteries of his mentors and the ambiguities of their relationships. The wizard himself never made it clear what he was trying to achieve or, more importantly, what he was trying to prevent, so the main character reacted as best he could -- the way he was raised to be. If anything, the narrative had a strong sense of inevitability about it -- one way or another, even eternal guardians must find an end.
As for his personality, I find his matured self to be the most convincing paladin I've ever seen. Paladins have a tendency to be one of three things: Perfect Heroes with no discernible personality traits; self-righteous douchebags, as the pious are wont to be ("Lawful Stupid," see also, real life); or inclined to fall into a crisis of faith at the drop of a hat, typical of good-hearted innocents facing the contradictions of religion. He is none of these things. His faith is real, his connection with his god convincing, and he actually has a personality, if not exactly a wild one.
@UnknownSaint111 lol.. Your entire rant was "I don't like this because the MC finds someone who isn't his mother attractive but since they are family and people have -roles- its disgusting" I think you are overanalyzing it looking for a deeper meaning than actually paying attention to panels and the story.
@UnknownSaint111 Seems like a reasonable adult to me, just not to whatever adult standards you hold of someone, I suppose. He acts more maturely than many real world adults I know of. Yes, he keeps a bit of childlike sense of wonder as well, but there's nothing wrong with that, nor unrealistic.
Also he didn't masturbate to his mother figure, he had a wet dream. Entirely different, without intent. Either way, they're not biologically related and she's the only woman he'd seen in his like ~13 years at the time? of life.
He couldn't postpone his coming of age, it doesn't work like that. Gus wanted him to like, stall their falling apart attachment to protect the thing mostly? Which maybe could've happened, but as you saw, he DID lose like gus told him to (not intentionally) and that didn't matter anyways, they still had the god coming for them right after that.
Anyways, this is my favorite thing I've read this year, honestly. I'm also a fan of other series such as overlord, to the point it's one of the only series I've read the entire LN (so far) of, but if anything I like how this series is more serious instead of gaggy, overlord is a series that plays into many isekai tropes and makes them amusing, while this series tends to avoid a lot of the worst stuff.
If anything Ainz is often more immature than this protagonist, and that's some ofOverlord's appeal.
But yeah, you're entitled to your opinion, if a series isn't to your taste there's nothing wrong with that, but yeah, I like this personally. Recommend it to anyone else coming through these comments.
I find the mc quite unlikeable. The story is geared towards making him succeed, but it doesn't even begin to feel realistic. All mc wants is just to save orphans and to destroy demons. Where is his development? He's learning on the physical front somewhat, being shady overpowered, but on the moral front he's learning... to be less perfect? It just doesn't make for a compelling protagonist after all these chapters. It's also more likely his preaching would be meaningless to everyone around him than the welcoming he's receiving.
@Ayreos How is he not developing? He started out with regrets of having wasted his previous life. He learned to embrace life living with Blood and Mary. He learned to accept death after dealing with Stagnate. The current story arc is about him making friends and learning to rely on others rather than taking everything upon himself, becoming a leader in the process. Also, what do you even mean by becoming less morally perfect?
I don't like how scrawny he is. I actually imagined a built man that's only slightly thinner than Gus when I was reading the LN. Maybe like how people are in seven deadly sins. But oh well. This works I guess.
One of the best ongoing Manga stories. A masterpiece. This manga has heart: a level of empathy that our societies are lacking right now. That's how it transcends the limited goal of just being a piece of entertainment. It advocates for a world with more empathy.
