it's only stupid if they are not being influenced by MC's EX. im surprised no one here reached that conclusion we all assume her target was the knight lady but if she corrupted the bodyguard duo then their actions make sense with weak justification.

The thing is, I don't think she wants to straight up kill him, she wants to specifically crush his party/friendships, be it through honey traps, intrigue, misunderstandings, or greed. She doesn't seem to consider him dying as winning, otherwise she would have been satisfied when he got isekai'd. She doesn't derive satisfaction out of physical pain, she enjoys emotional suffering from her circle crushing.
