@Riger oops, my bad. I did forget. However, it doesn't change what I said about this being the expected outcome of seriously overdosing. If this was unusual it probably would have been mentioned.
Now, I have a similarly poor recollection of the exact conversation that led to the human salt lick scene, but it strikes me as a controlled imbibing of human essence, at least compared to the pills Catboi got. I mean, there has gotta be a reason they don't just draw blood or shave the poor guy.
The exact effect of the relics seems to vary based on the consumer, because you seem to have forgotten that Dex hulked out in the first scene we see him in on a normal human hair. So that's unrelated to the pills, and probably has more to do with the creator not finding buff, violent women as attractive as horny, intoxicated women (and little girls) than any in setting rules. The itchy withdrawal was also different than the bear girl's reaction even though she also consumed a hair, though the itchy was the normal reaction according to what Ria had heard on the matter. So if the difference is not in the consumer, than it's in the quality of the protagonist's, uh, materials. Which raises it's own questions.
Concerning the demonkin from Chapter ten I hesitate to take him at his word because of how fishy he is. He knows the full name of the protagonist, which he shouldn't since the bear village is under some terrible curse if they blab. Plus how did he locate the one desperate, withdrawing cat hiding in the sewers? Or does he regularly proposition random half naked dudes in the sewers with assassination contracts?
I am theorizing that the demonkin are responsible for the actual summoning of our dear mc, probably a culmination of their research into how the humans left or possibly the means of gathering materials for ongoing human research/production of the pills.
I tried to double check my facts at your request unless otherwise indicated.
