I think much more than Naori being a loner previously, it's that she knows she can't talk about this with Hinata. Hinata wants to become human, but Naori is reconsidering whether that even makes sense, or is the best solution, or even any kind of solution at all. So Naori needs to think about it, and really figure out the answer in her own head, before she can talk to Hinata and potentially change Hinata's mind. If Naori were to talk to Hinata about what she's thinking about, I think Hinata would shut it down and say that she's going to become human. The lack of communication is a little frustrating but I think it makes sense for Naori to close herself off when she's uncertain like this. She'd always been a loner prior to the start of the story and she's not used to opening up to people about these things. I think this arc won't just be important for Hinata's goals going forward but also for Naori to understand what it really means to be with Hinata, not just as a bartender but as a partner.
Her problem isn't about her sexuality at all. She might be aware and out of the closet, even. But that doesn't really solve her issue which is entirely around her self-image.I can't tell if she's closeted or just ignorant of it outright.
Very true, none of her concerns are related to sexuality at all, which is why it makes perfect sense it has never been a topic or even stray thought. I only bring it up at all due to other characters thinking about it, which made Naori stick out to me a little bit for not thinking about it whatsoever. Her problem isn't about her sexuality at all. She might be aware and out of the closet, even. But that doesn't really solve her issue which is entirely around her self-image.
It's also possible that she was raised in an environment where it was forced on her, but in a way that she was able to rebel against early so she worked through everything about it well before she met Hinata. In fact, I'd even say I like her even more because of this. It is currently completely irrelevant to her, and it might simply be that she was raised in an environment that didn't force such thoughts and ideals upon her the way they are actively forced upon her oni and yokai slayer acquaintances.
I hope she'll talk about it someday! Even just a brief reference in passing would do the trick. It's also possible that she was raised in an environment where it was forced on her, but in a way that she was able to rebel against early so she worked through everything about it well before she met Hinata.
