That was just plain rude he was told it was for married couples gave one to her and now wants to apparently sell the other to this merchant guy or maybe the king? Like I don't even think the denser of harem protags would try to sell off their partner like he apparently is about to. Also why didn't he go to any other shops? Why didn't he shop around at all? What kinda lazy ass market research is he doing? This idiot failed on all fronts aside from complementing the dress of the woman he is about to sell off.

I feel like it was a bit funny at first when he didn't know what was considered a proposal, but now he's just turned full moron. So either the author wants to make him an uncaring asshole or a complete dumbass.

Eh... I rate it 4/10, i'm being nice too.

To be fair, he asked what the most expensive items were, and then bought them immediately, so he seems to have already decided to give her the most valuable reward he could from the place, as thanks for joining him, regardless of what it ended up being. As such, when a person already has something firmly in mind, like he did, the extra information (and how that could affect the perception of the predetermined gift) doesn't register as much. This makes it more understandable for me, because there is a reasonable psychological explanation for how he didn't notice this (even though we, and she, are obviously supposed to see it clearly).

@cullinaire While I get that it is a bit of an overused trope (and often one I often find frustrating, as well), her expressions here are so funny (I really like this artist's work with facial expressions, in general) that I don't mind it as much with her. At least she isn't always punching him, or saying she dislikes him to everybody, or anything like that. She actually is honest with her feelings, but bad at expressing them to him, so I see her as more "shy" than "tsundere" which also makes me not mind it as much here.

I suspect Shinzo Abe arranged that dude's exportation to an isekai because he had a zero percent chance to get married and produce new citizens.

but he was legit told it was a set of two for married couples

That was pretty alright as far as tired old "oblivious to love" jokes go, but... Why's this even have the romance tag? I'm pretty sure it's only ever brought up as a joke and very much not something that'll be focused on.

I mean, if someone searches for romance manga and finds this, it would be disappointing or even misleading, so it really shouldn't be there.

Light stone aside, he never knew that gifting light stone is pretty much proposal, i can accept that.

But that?! Merchant literally just told him that this is paired item for husband and wife, and he just went "oh, ulmander, you can have that one, and the other is gonna be owned by someone you don't even know".

We were shown that despite being dense, he is extremely proficient in handling the information, as long as he get it (chapter about ulmander being mad at him for not noticing her "body" that she show). When explained about paired item, he should had immediately notice how rude his present was.

That was my problem too with this scene. Even if he was just thinking about work and business, he was told that the cups are supposed to be a set. A buyer would probably want to have the two of them. And if you're going to give them as a present with zero romantic intentions, it would be more polite to give the complete pair too. Anything else would be rude in any world, yes.

Evidently, Uchimura only saw the cups as expensive pieces to trade. But after being given all the information he needed to realize their cultural significance, he can't blame his faux pas on his ignorance. The importance of cultural differences and Uchimura's adventures and misadventures having to deal with them have been one of the major themes in the manga. This felt surprisingly out of character in that regard.
