The two aren't mutually exclusive, you know. Some of history's worst tyrants have been quite compassionate towards their loved ones.

It would be more satisfying if it had more foreshadowing about his kids I guess

I would roll my eyes at this development, but this is admittedly much more reasonable than other isekai MC's sparing utterly irredeemable trash mobs.

No doubt about that, just that the character gets 2 chapters to explain his character is all. Maybe it's just my personal thoughts how many chapters characters should get to show their personalties.

@Rudoku
Indeed.

@Sickmangav2 He's not a saint, he's just another level of crazy. So hungry for gold he'd trade in a country in war. You see danger, he sees an opportunity for money. Adopting children? Discount labor and undying loyalty when they're adults. The fact that he did good things is only coincidental.

@OraOraApril19 i'd see it more as just showing people are multifaceted. no one is just limited to a few character traits, case and point, he's a miser, but even he has loved ones. (could even argue his greed is in part because he's trying to make ends meet cause of them.) just my take though, it may be you're right and it's entirely coincidental that he does good things XD

I'm all for kind and good characters, but most isekai are absolutely terrible at portraying the dilemma of what it means to keep a scoundrel from being executed, and the consequences that come from sparing the villain. The MC had a Reason to save this Orc beyond just good intentions - he saw his value and what a well-connected merchant could bring to the table. I appreciate the consideration put into this story.

The way Mr Butagallian is portrayed in this chapter versus how he was portrayed 2 chapters ago is giving me whiplash though lol

You may be right, if everything in chapter 18 is his true personaility and feelings yes. Chapter 19 doesn't really give any reason as to why he decided to help the orphans so it's hard to decipher it. It also depicts his character as less abrasive and callous and more caring and at the very least understanding of his actions.

Hopefully there'll be some followup from these characters but i don't think they will tbqh.😅
