In a way, Fuyumara made Sanda go in a similar path of Ono's, and her desperation comes from the realization that she lost a dear friend for growing up too fast and she accidentally made the friend who stood by her side go in the same direction in order to protect her.

I really like how Sanda's desire for the competence, dependability, strength, etc of adulthood (and the fun adult things of a serious drink and chat) provides a positive counterpoint for the series' other topics of like... the horrors of aging, aspects of youth you can never get back... It provides a little glimpse of what a happy ending for this series could look like :)

Well the series is also clearly having a theme of accepting age rather than rejecting it. Aging sucks. You lose a lot. But by trying to stay young forever, you'll lose everything that made you strong. Santa's strong white hairs vs the principal's weak black hairs shows the disparity between their attitudes. The principal's entire character is based around his shame around getting older, and that's what has made him weak.
