It was mentioned last time that he stubbornly pursued her even though she kept rejecting him, and I think that's meant to parallel the way mc couldn't pick up on certain social cues and was constantly overstepping his boundaries which led to Momiji's negative reaction towards him

Not really, the MC has clearly been trying to impress her and constantly pursue her in some type of way. In chapter 2 she's visibly annoyed and put off with mc because he was trying to white knight and take her bf's position, then the next day she's visibly turned off again after he gets all pushy and suggest they should go back and that he'll protect her. She's only interested in the mountain now because of the mystery surrounding the masked guy, when mc tells her later on that the masked man isn't a influencer she looks apathetic and disappointed to which he quickly scrambles for a reason or excuse saying the masked man is hiding something, to which she gains interest again.
