I'd have made a couple different choices with translation.
For reasons that aren't apparent yet, instead of ”Masato's boyfriend" I'd have said "are you two dating?"
He did not say the word "boyfriend".
Also, Hanzawa says "you don't need to worry so much, mom".
Yes, I've read this issue so many times I've memorized most of it.
Also, the "Dead" in the chalkboard was originally in English lol
It's fantastic. It's heavenly. The last chapter of this volume (there will be a 7) made me cry a few times. I was in the chat for the artist's Pixiv stream, telling her why X scene and Y line mean so much to me, as a homosexual (lesbian). She was very appreciative of that.
Y line was (my own translation, from volume 2) "I was sure I wasn't, but maybe I am [gay]... Is Sasaki-senpai? Suddenly I feel so confused/scared". That's such a real, normal reaction to confronting your own sexual orientation, at that age in particular...
This is my fav comic. In all 38 years of my life.
@starlighter when I read that back in the fall my mind blew apart.
Then he suddenly is supportive??? He was described in the Hirano & Kagiura novel as "infamously homophobic" and look at how he acts in the spinoff manga!
That was a full 180°!
Odd that in 6 volumes, years IRL and in the story and not once has anyone actually said "gay" (in Japanese. Any instances shown in the manga have actually been "homo". Yes, it's derogatory there as well. I don't get why the artist did that... Why would Miyano say that???)
