Omg more Hanzawa lore, my favourite treat....... Okay, while it doesn't justify his homophobic behaviour in earlier SasaMyaa/HiraKagi in my opinion (it's not like domestic violence doesn't happen all the time in straight/wlw/other relationships too), I definitely understand his reasoning better now. Witnessing something like that firsthand as a kid must be traumatizing and can surely change your worldview pretty drastically. This context also explains why he was so worried in Hirano to Kagiura chapter 31, their fight must've taken him right back to that memory...
Also has it been brought up that Ogasawara's brother is gay/bi before?? I was surprised to hear he was involved in all that, but I might've just forgotten about that detail if it was ever mentioned.

Anyway, I'm glad Masaomi has been able to move on from it, he seems so sweet and kind. And I'm glad Hanzawa has been able to set his fears and prejudice aside as well, warms my heart how openly he supports Sasaki and Myaa-chan :') <3

Besides the angst very cute chapter, I always love when the guys just hang out together in a big group like this. Poor Ogasawara always going through it for no reason lmao. And what IS on Sasaki's mind???? I need to know!!!!

Couple lines went a direction I wouldn't have gone in and one of two minor errors, but nothing that matters, I suppose.
The Hanzawa/Miyano flashback is a bit wonky, but it's got a translation out there.

Niibashi is pinging his gaydar, as Niibashi clearly fighting a crush on Miyano.
I was weirded out how intensely he thought about gayness, and refusing to believe someone could be comfortably out of the closet. Then I was like "oh. What if it's internalised." Then I started to notice looks at Miyano increasing in frequency and tension.
Doubt he's figured it out himself.
Not really.

I am gonna guess that his family is homophobic, and he is scared shitless about homophobia.
Edit: in 202X in Japan.
So it's very and slightly silly, respectively.

He was worried about being recognised at a BL event, he knew of some artists.
I don't fully get why Miyano recognised his hand, of all things.

I’ve been wondering what was up with him since he insisted on following sasamiya around to see if they were really together, and Shirahama having a crush on Miyano explains everything to me!!! So thank you for that haha

I don’t know why I never considered him liking Miyano before, but after rereading pt 1 of the cultural festival it’s become so obvious. He was so nervous around Miyano specifically and lowkey afraid of Sasaki the whole time as if he would confront him. I love sensei’s attention to detail and her ability to have multiple things happening in each panel, and I’m super curious to see where she takes this next

"Miyano has such a girly face that when he blushes you could get the wrong idea" (about what? Not clear)
"Huh? No. He's a guy."

Now, I think Tashiro may have been party A, and just saying "huh. You could take him for a girl if you didn't know better, huh?"
"Huh? No. I would never mistake a man for a woman."

It could be Shirahama being weird and Tashiro saying "Huh?" Because in volume 3 or 4 Tashiro says "He has a cute face, but he's still a guy!"

Because he's straight, not homophobic.
"What do guys do when they're dating? Are dates different from hanging with friends?"
"Well, normal stuff."
"Normal stuff... What do you do with your girlfriend?"
"Normal stuff"
"I don't have a girlfriend, so I don't know what that means!"

Wasn't meant to be as awkward as it was, and his reaction was the right one. "Got it. But what's normal stuff?"

First of all this cracked me up, a wonderful phrase that I will definitely use going forward. Second, it makes so much sense for Shirahama to feel that way and I can't believe I didn't pick up on it earlier... Like sure I've noticed that he's gradually gotten more involved in scenes but somehow the (possible) reason didn't click for me until you pointed it out, so thanks! (This is what I get for not rereading enough lol, I have terrible memory/ability to read between the lines..) I feel kinda bad for him though, hope he can find someone else eventually :-(

Please, I would love this. He's already one of my fav side characters and this would just be the cherry on top, and like you said it'd make the most sense for why Miyano was fixated on his hand.

Had to revisit it after reading this and you're so right, thank you for bringing it up!! It's hard to imagine there being any other reason for why he's acting that way, even outright saying he feels irritated over Miyano and Sasaki being in the nurse's room together.
