The first mistake would be pandering to the xitter crowd(not accusing you or anything) , they can never be appeased.

Might be a little hopeful outlook, but it's nice that he was being appreciated and saved/healed by his lil sis in the last page

Something that I really appreciate about this the protagonist doesn't immediately become perfect after gaining his powers. It is a slow learning process and it feels so satisfying to see him make small process in each chapter.

The authors to a lot of famous coming-of-age books involving romance are often old men. Most notably to my memory is Philip Pullman, author to His Dark Materials. Honestly, I think that if the public can enjoy the writings of 50-80 year old men about teenage romance. Then honestly your work should be much more palatable.
