I think it's a difference in genetic. The Japanese body on average doesn't smell as much as westerners' does. So for body odor to be readily noticable, you have to do it on purpose (I can speak to this since I inherit my mother's odorless tendency. Although mine is slightly less powerful). Plus, since body odor is such a personal thing there, to let other people smell your body odor could be seen as an intimate act. Therefore why Japan likes to mention body odor on porn.
