This is because the person who does this is essentially a piece of shit. They have sniped series and force others to pay to receive lacklustre translations in the name of speed. Also to profit off of essentially reposting another person’s work is illegal, sure technically donations are fine, but what they’re doing isn’t asking for donations, they’re asking essentially for this to be a job instead of hobby. That first page... I can't help by feeling like it's very scummy with loads of red flags - which is extra concerning (for my sanity from mixed signals; not as in being a lie ) as by seeing it posted by same user before I'm fairly sure by now that it isn't a scam.
First, it specifies an amount but no feedback for how much has already been received.
Second, it has loads of possible (and obvious) loopholes ("we received 10$ from 7 ppl, noone ever gave us 40$ so we aren't obligated to fulfill our part of the deal!"; "We asked you to make a deal with united states, not our team! Noone sponsored the united states the 40$ needed!"; "we did do the untranslated chapters. Who said 'doing' meant 'translating' here? I thought it was known that doing something means to fuck it!?" etc.)
Third, 40usd sounds like far too little for 3*8=24 hours of work (though technically it says 3 days and not 3 workdays, so should be 3*24), for a single person. Much less a team. Also, if someone in your team has a job then they will be forced to work 2 full-time jobs during those days, which makes it morally bad for someone to accept the deal (though the simply solution to that is to give more )... Particularly, prior occurrences [of that page] has stated they won't sleep if that's what it takes, so as much as those calculations sound like a joke they are actually all too possibly the reality.
Fourth, the grammar and language sounds like what I would expect in a scam - though to reiterate, I have seen this deal/page in other series from same uploader, which do get batch releases, so I am somewhat certain it isn't a scam?
Fifth, and so on.
So what exactly do I actually have against it? I'm not sure rly. On one hand it feels like they are asking for way too little, on the other it feels icky from dark pattern + connotations from when you usually see messages begging for money, and finally it feels like a SAN-hazard from how many red flags it is throwing in my mind despite how looking at the users upload history it appears legit
Not that I would donate anyway, considering I am a leech (though technically the actual reason is mostly because I don't have the income to support such a habit), so how I feel is clearly redundant
ps/tl;dr: if you wonder what was the use of the above post? The answer is "none". I am mostly just making some fun by overly analyzing a credits page because it gave me SAN-damage and a headache
Well, so long as they are focusing on things with a backlog, they are at least per definition staying away from sniping nowadays, then? So I guess that's good? This is because the person who does this is essentially a piece of shit. Something to keep in mind is that these chapters and every other manga they've translated gets scooped up by the aggregator sites. Hundreds of thousands of people see the ads. Assuming even a tiny percentage decide to send in the $40 (or any amount) they're easily making thousands of dollars each time. That first page... that is true i hope someone finally picks up this series after so long in the dumpster fire that is comicdoms old untranslated seriesI think this guy is a known theif, just wait a bit and a better scanlation group will probably upload the chaps. That's what's happened on a few series I read anyway.
