@Hounder to be serious, for a moment, the age of consent for the US is bs. There was a guy who, when he was 19 and his girlfriend was 16, was arrested and charged as a sex offender because of reasons.

My wife and I got married when I was 22 and she was 19 and certain portions of the legal system actually tried to invalidate our marriage because of the age gap.

While it is inappropriate, I find it hard to try two minors, who are within two years of age, for statuatory though I would try the parents as children shouldn't be aware of what they're doing.

With the situation that you apparently experienced, I can't say what happened, as I would have the entire story (from both sides just to be fair), so I personally won't make any judgements there. But, assuming what you said was true about your ages, there shouldn't have been an age-based reason, so only medical/psychological reasons could be possibly used to annul any marriage between two legally aged individuals in the US, barring just flat-out deception and/or "criminal activity/intentions" by one of the individuals.
