The thing about Mitsuhide is that even today, scholars still don't really know why Mitsuhide betrayed Nobunaga. Most attribute it to their rapidly deteriorating relationship (of which there were many other factors at play, from Nobunaga's erratic behaviour and generally being a toxic boss to Nobunaga getting Mitsuhide's mother killed).
There's even a suggestion that Mitsuhide was actually just a pawn in a bigger game played by the two Big Winners at the end of the whole incident (Hideyoshi and Ieyasu). We know from an earlier chapter (40) that Hideyoshi's brother, Hidenaga pulls a lot of strings in the political scene and has been working to build his family's influence in the faction. So the story may take this route instead of the usual "Mitsuhide had a personal vendetta/ambition" story.
