Hiding that fact that you're in a relationship is just the biggest recipe for disaster. Just saying "I'm taken" and bam, be done with it. All problems go away. I think the main reason it got to this point is that Sensei wasn't even aware there was anyone else seriously interested in her. The new guy only just made his intentions clear (everything before this was easy to misinterpret), and the other teacher is basically a non-entity. It's true they've gone past the point where it would be fine to admit to being in a relationship (or even just saying they're seeing someone without saying who), but I don't think either of them understood how urgent that was. Sensei was mainly caught up in her own insecurities, so she didn't really pay attention to the others. Now that this happened, I think that's all in a position to change.

The only thing they're really guilty of is being super dense to other people's intentions.

Gotta be honest, even though not a lot of people enjoyed this or last chapter. I really enjoyed it. It has quite a IASIP/KonoSuba vibe (a bunch of idiots come up with a plan, and that plan falls apart because individual's within the group form their own counter-plans).
