Oh, I'm beginning to think Garland's "dad" is the Emperor himself. The Garland being his daughter has two meanings. The first is that he's taking on the persona of her actual father (like the Pope is able to take on the persona of Zoe's mom or Lucas' boss). The second is that he's the Imperial Tower's avatar (like the Pope for the Papal Tower) and the Garland is in the process of turning into a new Tower - the "daughter" of the withering Imperial Tower. What he meant when he said he just wanted to live with his daughter is that he intends to transfer himself into the new Tower once it's completed.

FUCK.

Ok... I feel bad for Theodore, and that is without any caveat, unlike Magnetbro... Magnetbro thought too much of himself without putting in the effort, but Theodore... he deserved something better, but he needed to die too.

But, he really did it, he gained just enough time to allow the other fucker to arrive, things just got complicated.

But at the same time, I think that if used right... Lucas and Zoe's powers can counter him, the question is if they will be able to coordinate it in time.

I don't see why he needs to hide it if he is one. Besides, the magnetic guy has met the emperor before, so Garland's dad being the emperor doesn't make sense.

Tower avatars can impersonate people who die under their Tower's influence because the dead get "uploaded" into the Tower (which is the basis for the Papal States' faith). Garland's dad is definitely a Tower creation (like Mirror's daughter), but he is very different from other "branch" people. It's likely because he's the actual avatar of the Imperial Tower, the Empire's sovereign. There is no reason for Magnetbro to be able to identify him as the Emperor because the disguise is perfect. As for why he's hiding his identity, I already said before that the Emperor is cheating. I thought he did this by making an adult combat-capable branch person, but now I think he's cheating by joining the fray himself while in disguise. Both the King of Mirror Country and the Pope seem to take a hands-off approach, so Tower avatars probably aren't meant to fight their wars by themselves, but the Imperial Tower is withering, so the Emperor might have a reason to do so.

So what reason might that be? Well, the most probable reason is that what he seems to be trying to do might be "illegal". He seems to want to transfer over to the new "Garland Tower", expressing it as "living with his daughter in peace", but maybe this isn't actually allowed.

Here's how I think the setting works:

Inside each Tower there is a Ramus. However, looking at the Imperial Tower and what the Garland is undergoing right now, it's probably more precise to say that a Tower is a Ramus' final evolution parasitizing a structure. A Ramus grows through the exercise of their powers on the battlefield. At one point in this process, their "branch" could blossom and the Ramus attains the next level of their power. If the Ramus then continues to survive (which isn't guaranteed - Mirror's blossoming was destroying her body) then at one point their "branch" would turn into a "garland", encompassing their entire head in flowers. The "garland Ramus" would then continue to evolve and at some point they could start encompassing their body in branches, parasitizing a tower structure and forming its core. At this point they would generate a "sovereign", a branch person functioning as their avatar (because the original Ramus body becomes trapped inside the core). They also gain control over a territory that the "sovereign" rules over. Over time, new Rami are born inside the territory and can be used by the Tower to expand their influence, taking over other Towers. Over time too, some of those Rami would blossom, garland, and ultimately turn into a Tower as well, becoming an independent "child" of the original Tower. Most, however, just die on the battlefield.

Towers could also wither away, although it isn't clear whether the "reproduction" process is the cause of this.

What I think the Emperor (or rather, the Imperial Tower of Erin) is trying to do is extend its lifespan by transferring to the new "Garland Tower" being born as it itself withers away.

BTW, the central section of this "Mont Tombe" is based on the real-life Mont-Saint-Michel. It's not similar, it's identical. Now it could just be a shout-out of sorts, but, keeping in mind the cassette player from chapter 20, it might be an actual leftover "artifact" from our world/era. Maybe the towers save ancient cities' information as well, and this was recreated based on that. I wonder how artificial the world's layout is, like in One Piece.
