I'm legit worried that the author got terminal cancer or some shit and is desperately trying to finish his work before his own time is up.

Something has to explain the pacing increase. If it's just a stylistic choice, it is bizarre. I can't think of another work of fiction which did this for stylistic reasons. I don't think he's bored of it and trying to wrap it up, because it feels like there's still too much TLC put into it. I wonder if it got threatened with cancellation.

Tbf most children's songs are actually pretty fucked up. Ring Around the Rosy leaps to mind. It's about dying from the plague if you didn't know.

That makes more sense. I still think it's a bizarre choice. The pacing is claustrophobic. He could've had a solid reveal without condensing all these reveals. I've actually had friends drop over this because they just feel like it's not making sense anymore.l
