I hope this ain't a death flag for Pink
Honestly I'm worried it's a death flag for Hibiki, more than anything.
He just accidentally killed a man, and he's clearly heartbroken over it - because that was unjust, and he views his mission in life as building justice.
XX also let him go, watching his back as he walked away. Leaving the woman behind, staring at one's back, is a common symbol in the Dead Man's Walk - those characters who have a mission that will probably be the death of them, but they press on anyway. Super common trope in westerns, but it's in all sorts of genres.
I'm worried she won't recognize him, and kill him. That'd be fittingly tragic for her, and it would resolve his whole plot threat of trying to reform the rangers. He can't, nobody can, because their sense of justice is largely superficial (not that the invaders deserve any sympathy). Her killing him would be the proof positive that they are irredeemable.
Of course, it would also be profoundly unsatisfying, and I wouldn't like it. In general, this arc has been way too much of a clusterfuck. When most stories have problems with pacing, it's too slow - but this is just a mess.
