Owari no Seraph sits as one of those unique alternative perspectives on a certain feature of Western culture. This story focuses picks heavily from Biblical mythology and mixes it with Vampire lore to create a unique -- if uneven -- premise. The basic shounen story follows Yūichirō Hyakuya, a teen who was traumatically abandoned by his family and tossed out into a world as it falls apart. The main story starts eight years after an apocalyptic virus strikes the majority of the world's population, eliminating nearly all adults over the age of 13. We follow Yu as he struggles to adapt to a world where humanity is nearly ended and vampires take over, to protect the remaining livestock. Headstrong, foolhardy and untamed, Yu lashes out with hate at the Vampires who control the world. Along-side, the family he reluctantly adopted, fellow orphans from the Hyakuya orphanage. As his side, young Mikaela, a fellow orphan whose kind and loving nature allowed Yu to feel the embrace of family once more.

Thematically, Owari no Seraph is the story of family. Those of blood and those of comradeship made in the face of adversary with a heavy mix of unique Vampire and Demonic lore. Vampires and Demons both are cursed by a loss of empathy and emotions, and the way the various members of both deal with this change is one of the most unique aspects of the story. A particular highlight is the ongoing relationship changes with Yu and his Demon, Asuramaru, whose relationship is fully worth the price of admission to this manga. Another highlight is Yu's steady growth as an adult going from angry and hurt child into a confident leader able to positively influence those around him. Unfortunately the latter chapters remove Yu's agency, with him being drawn along by the plot instead of directing it by his own action, which is the major flaw of Owari no Seraph. Fans of positive relationships will find a great deal to love here, both in the platonic relationship between Yu and Mika, and in the unexpectedly emotional one between him and his Demon.

Nothingness is a denial of all that is. It is the ravening void of unbeing. To be Vampire then to become Demon Cursed, is to be unmade in all that was. No thought, No awareness, No memory, No being -- Nothing survives a Demon Curse. To awaken without Being is to experience utter abandonment. Fed upon hate, greed, lust the demon inevitably grows in power... but humans were never ones to worry about tomorrow, when power was needed today. Newborn Demons are driven by simple desires. They are in pain and seek to deal pain. They are hungry and seek to feed. They are hurt and seek to injure. They are broken and seek to break. A newborn demon is little more than a force of despair let loose upon their host. As they age, if their host is strong enough, their desires and needs grow more complex.

@PsyMonk,

Yes, exactly this. The same goes for so many other similar "dark" series, like Ubel Blatt, Black Clover, and Rain. They start off so great, but the story just devolves into convoluted nonsense towards the end.

for all confused people
if you read the LN all your questions would be answereed
alot of the confusing things is answered in the LN
this is the problem of the story
when the prequel is there but not a lot of people know about it
realy most of the new things happening in the new chapters which confused alot were facts for me even before the anime come !!!!!!!

@seekermoc I'm still at chapter 62 of Ubel Blatt, I just haven't had any desire to continue reading it. It's just been sitting there on hold among a few other series, including this one.
