Judging by the meeting, they were invited because they are the current client of that top adventurer/teacher, and because they know the victim. This was probably a conversation to let the
TEACHER take on a request to save the girl and/or subdue the bandit group. The MC is there to inform him and request his contract be suspended/canceled so she could take on the new request. I doubt they were going to ask him to tag along let alone save her.
Having the MC suddenly say he would save her is commendable, and noble, but reckless and out of character. The MC might know her but she is at best an acquaintance (maybe a friend). The MC hasn't even proven that he has the capability to fulfill such a request yet. Could he bring himself to kill a person? What about taking on an entire bandit hideout? How would his
Fiance fell about him doing this?
The First's motivations and priorities are all messed up and they are clearly clouding his judgement. And I personally find it problematic that he is constantly berating the MC for
EVERYTHING. He's not trying to psych up the MC for motivation while being direct. He is harassing the MC for all of his short comings while the MC is still recovering from trauma. Even if the MC wasn't broken this would psychologically disturb most ppl.
On top of all that, lets say that the MC does exactly what the first says. The MC just collapsed out of nowhere w/o warning in front of everyone for seemingly no reason. This doesn't exactly inspire confidence in his capability regardless of his determination. Even if he were just a tag along, he might be a liability. No one in that room would trust him w/ such an important request. His Fiance might even suggest he is not well enough to go.
So congrats to the First for sabotaging his own personal agenda.
