The way I see it, Chapter 2 was literally the only remotely interesting point in the entire manga. The rest of the time it just pretentious drivel about the transience of things over long spans of time and a load of "I can't relate to mortal mayflies" crap. Honestly it is annoying whenever any manga tries to pull that sort of thing (it is mostly just an excuse not to commit to anything), but even then there are some that can manage a vaguely decent plot in spite of it. Sousou no Frieren can't. It can't even come close.
I've rated it 3/10, and most of those 3 points were for Chapter 2 and the perspective screw with the rock.
It isn't like I never give high ratings, though there are fewer than 5 manga on the site I've given a 10 to. Frankly even having more than 1 of them is an insult to the unrivalled glory of Golden Kamuy (I'd give it a 20/10 easily).
I do tend to come down a LOT harder on higher-rated manga if I believe they're unworthy of their rating though. The 3rd most popular manga on the site (Japanese only) is, my opinion, the worst manga on the entire site.
Somewhat tangential thought.... but you know how people hate it when a story pulls the "It's all just a dream" thing? That never personally bothered me. But I suspect the way people react to that plot device is similar to the way I hate stories that hinge on navel-gazing on the transience of human life, if it helps you relate to it any.
