No, adults are stronger than children. Don't forget that all adults produce medium/high amount of soot and have powers (which is not the case with children, whose production can vary and not all have powers). Thomas already proved this when he visited the children's building and Christopher(human) already confirmed this(page 164). Probably King just didn't enhance his abilities since he doesn't need to~This chapter was excellent. Maryrose believed that the adults soot powers were incomparable to that of the children. The adults never showed their powers to her, and so she inevitably built up a misunderstanding that their powers were incomparably stronger than hers because of the unification. Today that image has come crashing down. King's soot power was weaker than every single one of the star bearers. The competent and terrifying Edward was the exception rather than the rule - the ones that survive unification might just happen to be the insecure and incompetent children rather than the excellent ones.
Well tbh its not that weaker, it's depend on timing and how to use it. Like Evelyn got the perfect time connecting to him & make it useless. But she would lose if He makes some distance and slicing around & potentially cut her fingers off. Same thing against a Douglas, throwing is a big no but grabbing his neck seems effective. This chapter was excellent. Cuz Thomas has an unique power. John still can easily beat Eilene's soot pigeon. Or if He is against adult Suzanna or adult BellesNo, adults are stronger than children. If the adults are incompetent, they will become soot stacks. This chapter was excellent. Maryrose believed that the adults soot powers were incomparable to that of the children. There's also quite a few times where they screw up each others' plans by accident because they're concealing what's going on from each other.I just love how the villains here are also often at odds with other villains.
