I think that would actually ruin his whole arc. He's strong because he can learn from and rely on his friends

Fair opinion, but the way I see it, he'd only get his hypothetical unique skill back after the arc's over. (Re)Gaining his unique skill afterwards wouldn't negate the fact that he succeeded in saving his mother without it.
I mean, him getting an ability after rescuing his mom doesn't erase the accomplishments.
He probably lived his entire life being strong. When he lost that he had no idea how to be anything. It's clear that both Connie and their dad believe/d that being weak meant being helpless, but dad learned the lesson quicker.
the way it was treated though, it always seemed like he was treated as if he became as fragile as glass. Just one hit and his body would break. Never was confirmed what the issue really was though.
It was noted very early on that the stronger the ability that was taken, the greater the burden was on the person who had the skill taken, so he was not only fragile but also drained- thinking of him as being a cancer patient wouldn't be that far off given this, frankly. Dad's ability was the ability to tank basically anything with his golden body so he did become "fragile as glass" afterwards, so I expect this to be investigated in subsequent chapters once they can take a moment and think about what happened.
She was cooked literally the moment their dad told her straight up she would have lost lmao. Their dad had to step in to save her life, not Lavi's.
They should have made it to where he couldnt tank that attack from his kids. Him being able to stop that attack is now what has me confused. Should have been a sacrifice, yet it looks like he's ok. So i dont know whats going on anymore.
Yeah, it raises a lot of questions. I mean, he still was really strong even beyond his ability, so maybe that's what this was meant to show? But unless they explain why he suddenly got buff again and healed, then it's gonna be disappointing.
