I feel like there's a parallel between glasses boy and people who's left behind in society. He's miserable, he's bullied, his mother didn't care about him and he's alone. His only escape is his hatred for those who wronged him and his envy for others. He put all his hopes into a women who show moderate interest in him with an unhealthy obsession, offering her his heart after she had rejected him. It's not very different from men who frequent prostitution and bars to find someone to talk to. It's hard to not feel some level of sympathy even if what they are doing is self-destructing.
