Note that the whole alpha-beta thing in wolf packs was debunked IIRC, because the information gleaned from the study was flawed - the study was conducted on wolves in captivity, so their behaviour had changed as a result

IIRC a wolfpack is basically just a regular family, with two heads (the prime breeding pair) and then the rest with no strict hierarchy to speak of
