I'd have to go back and check (don't feel like it though) but I think the Water one was a companion of his Hero life, and this one is from when he was a Mage.

The fact he just discards those he cared for... is kinda annoying. (for those that don't remember both times he ignored the dreams, and didn't care about their plea for help, and both times deus ex machina saved them by forcing him to go to them).
