Indeed, I've never seen a supposed hero (as in actual hero) that was so unsympathetic in manga before, which is saying something.
Fuck this dude! No loyalty whatsoever! "my acquaintance".. wtf? Even if they were not lovers, they spent years together, probably in life and death situations! Author is portraying all those girls as dumb airheads! Even the elf girl suddenly blushing, embarrassed, completely out of character! I know plot will make the MC save the day, again! but I would love to see his "acquaintances" start dying left and right, because he didn't do anything! But knowing him, he would just say "not my problem! I will live freely as an F-rank" :aquadrink:
That's the thing, he is not the hero.
Everyone reading this comic gives the MC shit for not doing 'heroic' things just because he has the power to do so.
And that's really telling.
It's literally the reason why he forced a reincarnation to a distant future.
The first two lives that he had were incredibly 'Lucky'. As in, he was always in a place where he would inevitably be forced to become a hero. A tool of the people.
Always forced to do things just because he can. Y'all getting upset at him for wanting to move on and be his own thing, ironically, is the same reason why he is tired of being the hero.
How many days of his like he has to continue sacrificing? He already did two lives. That's enough, imo.

I don't mean he has to be a "hero for the people"! Just a friend! If you have the ability to help your friends, but you refusing because "living freely", means you never consider them as friends! But that's my personal opinion on friendship

fate has other plans for him. even though he WANTS to live freely, he still finds himself in situations where his actions (whether he wants them to, or not) end up being heroic. Just by doing a simple gathering job to help the blacksmith, he finds himself facing off against a demon AND being discovered by an old pain in the ass. The only way he can truly live freely without being dragged into these situations is to become a hermit, and let the world burn around him.

Precisely, but the thing is, he isn't a jerk.
He likes adventuring, so he stays at a low rank, so that people don't order him around essentially.
He helps the blacksmith out of convenience, not because he wants to save the smithy.
He helps the spirits because the demons are targetting him specifically. I am pretty sure all of the spirit business so far has been in an effort to lure him out.
Like, if anything, Fate itself is kind of a jerk to him. It's forcing him to be a hero when it could very well spin someone else, or an entire nation even.

But that's the thing. He isn't their friends anymore. They used to be friends, back in his old life, but a lot of time has passed he can't really call them friends anymore because he doesn't really know them.
Plus, a lot of the people he meets on this era are his friends, but he isn't bound to doing their bidding like if it was his responsibility. He helps when asked, but not out of nowhere. He just has better boundaries, is all.

I suppose I can agree fate is a jerk toward him. I guess this guy is destined to be used for as long as he exist, no matter what his personal feelings are.

It's actually the other way around.
MC knows them, but erased his memories of them to forget about them
Remember, MC's incarnation wasn't something like he was born from a baby.
He just incarnated as an adult with some of his past memories intact and as he meets the people from his past, he remembers them.

On the otherhand, this new incarnation of MC is technically unknown to those from his past, but they still feel connection to him.

I know MC doesn't want to be the Hero, as he is tired of getting exploited. But that doesn't mean completely ignoring everyone connected to you.

Heck the way MC acts and the type of feeling those two girls have given until now towards him, I am sure that MC was the type who ignored anyone who cared about him, and heard & trusted only those who exploited him.

On another note, the way you are saying that MC isn't a friend to them, it's like saying you suddenly meet your mother from your past life, but because she isn't related to you now, you decide to completely ignore her and never help or protect or interact with her ever again.

What I hate most is he had the title of "Hero" in a previous life and it means nothing to him. I get wanted to live free and not play the hero if you don't have to, but the world is literally going to shit around you. Even if you don't want to actively become the hero, at least step up, do the work, and find someone else to pin everything on so he's seen as the hero and you go about your day
