The author isn't trolling anything. "F rank" is included in the series title itself, so the author simply trapped himself, with no way out. So, now he's wringing and squeezing that tired old joke, thinking it will amuse the audience endlessly, but in fact the joke is so long dead that only obnoxious pus is oozing out of that corpse of a joke.

How would a magic match be a good judge of his power as an adventurer? What if he was superior in physical strength and highly skilled in swords play? Is he still "just" a weak F-rank then, regardless of magical ability?

How is a not-properly-explained challenge without a single previous try ever a good contest? The guy was just a sore loser and cheat at that point.

The ONLY reason that the guild didn't give him the rank was because they wanted power over him to give rank.... which is dumb since rank should be to show ability...

The author just wanted a reason to make people look down on the MC...

But let's be real, the very premise of this entire story is just plain stupid....

So can you really complain??? If the very premise is dumb.... what can you actually expect???

You are a better man/woman than I.... I don't drop this... mainly because it's drip fed and it's only one short chapter...

If the translator mass released this.... I don't think I'd have the energy to go through with it.... though I might just skip chapters...

This is more of a "I'm bored and I already read all of my other sh*t" kinda story for me.. it's annoying and stupid... but it distracts me for a few seconds... and I have more reason to be in the comment section...

Now I do want to mention that a title just needs to be for the starting premise and it could be moved on from.... if there is a good enough reason... but most authors don't do that...

They usually keep the premise, even when it's better to drop it... or drop the premise even though it's better to keep it...

That may or may not be true depending on how the different race's origins occurred in that world. Regardless, there are two races with the word Elf in it, one is "Dark Elf" and the other is "Elf", up until Masti, MC has not met someone of the race "Elf".
