It does? Especially in the earlier chapters. He sympathized with people that fucked up and realized that giving them a second chance is better than solely punishing them. Honestly, the fact that the manga doesn't romanticize his Yakuza past is refreshing. He's not this badass dude that can beat 100 guys with his bare fist. He's just an old dude that fucked up during his youth and turned over a new leaf.
