Waaaaay down the road, Gideon and Ruti do eventually find each other again. Gideon eventually develops a drug that allows people to overwrite/resist the urges of classes, allowing Ruti to break free of her fate (and kick that mage’s ass).

Aries the ahole will get what’s coming to him eventually, and the rest of the hero party collapses and disbands because of repetitive failure.

Gideon/Red does get plenty more “secret badass” moments down the line, but there’s also plenty of fluff too.
