Makes a certain amount of sense. Being forced or manipulated into doing things you don't want to by some arbitrary trait you have no control over would be pretty awful. In a lot of ways this trait being seen as "god-given" by most people would make it even worse as you'd feel the need to keep your dissatisfaction quiet. I'd at least try a solution to that if offered one.

This Moen dude is retarded. He admits to knowing the guards are fucking up in this case, yet he still sent them to collect a child from the area they are in conflict with. Without very specific instructions to not use force. I get that he's desperate to find his son, but he is literally feeding the riot. Moron.

@cor3zone it kind of makes sense, from what they were talking about they captain is really worried about his son (that has disappeared for some days already)... the thing is, the art didn't show that (like the guy having black Circle in the eyes or be more desperate)

stupid people do even stupidier shit when desperate.

@Knighto
It's not even the lack of visuals. In this chapter he is verbally posing as calm and collected, he is stating on his own that the guards are confusing victim and perpetrator. He is openly admitting to the guards being shit. The only time he loses his temper is when Ademi potentially using drugs comes up.

My issue is that he is talking about the guards fucking up like an outsider, like he has no relation to the situation. If he was distraught he wouldn't calmly admit to screwing up; he would defend his actions, defend his guards. It looks like wild incompentence, or massive corruption. Like he couldn't care less about Ademi or the riot, as long as his own ass is covered. I prefer to think the best of characters, so I reckon incompetence.

Edit: to clarify, his composure when talking doesn't match someone fucking up in desperation.

@Knighto He's too old-school soldier pedigree. Back in the 19th century Europe, Japan, and other places, still in the early 20th century England, such fathers weren't uncommon. They would hardly blink even if their son dropped dead. They were punished and beaten too much by their own fathers when they were growing up. All weakness was driven out of them by whip and cane. A son's purpose in life was basically just to replace the father, to carry the family name, tradition, and honour.

I mean, yeah. The Hero can't even function as a normal human being, she's literally just a killing machine. She can't even sleep because of the 'protection', IIRC? No benevolent god would do that to someone.

@cor3zone Yeah the hero can't feel much of anything besides being the hero lol the backstory for abilities in this manga is fairly interesting.

Even lesser 'protections' are malicious. Ademi's 'Fighter', for instance. The kid just wants to be a good guard, but god forces him to be a bully with the 'protection'.

Rare or common, it seems all 'protections' lead to some dysfunction.

Actually, there are plenty of divine protections that lead to positive outcomes. Ignoring the combat-oriented ones, there are things like Sage (which allows the user to master magic at the cost of having a huge ego), chef (which really has no downside as long as you have money to buy food), alchemist, carpenter, and so on.

It's basically a natural law version of India's or feudal Japan's caste system. However, unlike them, you can move up in life by getting the correct divine protection rather than being permanently stuck as a lower caste citizen. Sure, it's not fun for those who don't like their divine protections, but it ensures there's always a job for someone to do. It always provides you with a role in life, whether you like it or not, which is a blessing or a curse.
