I think what irked me the most, aside from the slavery, the pointless adventurer status, the cliche "you're fired" opening, and the typical power fantasy protagonist...WAS HOW MANY PEOPLE THE AUTHOR DREW WITH THEIR EYES CLOSED AS PART OF THEIR CHARACTER DESIGN. This series is so stupid, I don't know why I bothered reading all those chapters.
The bandit chief with the glasses is surprised that they can see them because of the clearing barrier... But like what would you do if you were just invisible? The carriage would just go by, or the horses would walk over your weaklings
"The town guards will probably catch him" but how would they know he's a criminal, since he likely comes and goes out of town usually, and you aren't going after them or saying anything about it?
"Just what the hell were they doing in a place like this?" Well, they were blocking the road... Like, if they were trying to be sneaky, they would likely let the carriage pass by, they were specifically blocking the road... Do you know who blocks roads in the middle of the night? Yeah, that's right, bandits.
And that couple of definitely not suspicious people with skulls on their clothes were just able to cross the border, and they just had a friendly chat with the butler, letting MC know that they're after him? Yeah, super realistic...

Yeah, overall I don't hold SAO in high regard, just typical power/harem fantasy but at the bare minimum it has better storyline than this manga.

very true. if you like power fantasy with some dark/dystopian elements sao is perfect if you can ignore some crap story beats. as a teen who just started anime it was absolutely god tier and still holds a nostalgic place in my heart

I don't know why some of you guys are thinking these guys are bandits - there's nothing to suggest that these are the same guys from chapter 2 (especially since that was a group of 6 and this group only has 5 people). This just looks like some other sorta shadowy adventuring group or something.
