I really do wonder how they manage to infiltrate this fast and just get invited to a high profile party like this (wasn't this organised by the king?). If they can do that, this kingdom's over.

It doesn't seem that Olivia sees him as a threat, but they'll be dancing, so I wonder what'll happen. He has no clue how much danger he's in, since she can just grab his heart if she suspects anything. Well, the truth is that even if she suspects something, she'll care more about getting back to the food than causing a mess that might spoil the mood and prevent her from getting back to the food. She's also confident in her ability to take him out if they meet on the battlefield, so if he's just here to scout and she doesn't have orders, she probably won't act.

I’m guessing he used magic to get in (still wouldn’t look good for the king but magic users are so rare it’s probably not a common concern). If he can charm people he might even be trying to dance with her specifically to win her over. If so, I’m assuming she’ll be able to naturally repel his magic and might even kill him

Saying something like "Don't care, I am eating" like our heroine is probably an insult, but how are social gatherings actually expected to function if every random person can't be refused?

It depends. 18 century England had woman often carry around dance cards where they could schedule songs with partners in advance so you could refuse if you were already booked

otherwise, you could also refuse if you had an excuse like being tired from having already Danced or aren’t feeling well. you might see a woman say “I need to get some air”. (Leading to an encounter on the balcony) Any believable excuse works besides”I wanna stuff my face”

I understand, but that's kind of my point, though: there must be rules in place, no way this is just a "first come, first served", that would be rude to everyone involved, and someone should certainly be able to refuse to dance (of course, stating you want to eat as your reason to not dance IS rude).

I think the other guy is already breaching etiquette by being a complete stranger and asking for a dance, there is no way there is no vouching process at the very least, or it would always be chaos.

Well, I doubt it would ever happen at a party like this, but if he, for whatever reason, did try and charm her with magic to make her go with him, I don't think it would work. I wouldn't be surprised if Death did not teach her some method to resist it. Otherwise, it would not be as fun or beneficial to have his death machine be controlled by some other random guy who knows a little charm magic.

Olivia got teached how to use REAL magic and not just sorcery like the mekia church guys. Sorcery is like a downgraded copy of magic. Basically they can only use magic from their own body, which isnt much often times and can even kill them if depleted, while Olivia can use the magic that is in nature around her. Be it magic or with the sword, they are completely inferior to her in any way.

There usually isn't. But there is a hierarchy to it. For instance, if she promised a dance to someone else, then priority goes to that other person. If someone else also asks at around the same time, she has free choice to choose who her dance partner would be and can effectively deny everyone else. Not postpone, deny. If she is already spoken for, someone's fiancé/wife/lover, she can also deny without being rude. However it's typically seen as "not becoming" if that dance request is from someone of higher status despite everything I've already wrote. A woman of higher status of the guy asking, is completely free to deny his dance request.
