Plus they were told that there were no soldiers in the vicinity so they were trusting their scouts while thinking that the enemy was being cocky.
Yeah I think the entrapping troops being an hour away and not located in the immediate area by scouts was a factor in their confidence that it wasn't a trap. But I still mostly agree with the sentiment that they took the easy route to make Ashton seem big brained.

But it doesn't matter because this manga is all about Olivia doing Olivia things. Hell yeah

In my opinion, even though you know its a trap, identified what kind of trap and the mechanism behind it is important too.

For one, I'll say that this is clearly not meant to be a war strategy manga, so just focusing on simple deviations on tactics instead of the grand scheme is reasonable.
Furthermore, this takes place in fantasy feudal times, most people are sitting there because of heritage and not merit. To expound on that point, it's not as if they have been lacking strategies. In fact, Ashton has only been there for a few meetings and hasn't been able to talk much, or say anything, regardless. Most of the brasher commanders have just been frustrated due to the length of the war and feel confident that they could at least take that regiment down with all their forces.

A reasonable idea, especially since it was made clear this only just recently happened, as most were unaware.

The biggest point here is not that they didn't realize it was a trap, as the top 2 showed pretty well how unsurprisinged they were and instead used Ashton as a way to bring strategy to the table from another view. This one, as a strategist of an elite mobile group. Not only were the brash commanders willing to listen to him, but because he held knowledge only the 7th division did (about killing the general), all the pieces on why fell into place, so rather than just, it's obvious, they all understand why that trap was made which makes it a lot easier to figure out how to deal with it.

Such adorable squeaking from Olivia, as well!

Meh its just a trope at this point, making eveyone look dumb so another can state the obvious. Seeing as almost 95% of these heads/commanders are dumb as fuck, except for Paul, Otto and persumably the Previous supreme commander before paul(forgot his name).
When you are in a loosing position as stated, you don't go for a brash assault on an open opponent, while obviously missing the thousands of missing enemy troops who have not been killed or defeated.

But this is about the cute Murder loli, so we'll just turn a blind eye to this shit.

I'm not sure why but this image looks like porn from first glance. Perhaps it's his "clothes" or the fact that there's too much saliva or his face or the fact that i seen something close to this.

That's just wrong. It's the responsibility of these commanders to look at the grander picture. But the thing isn't even grand. It's very easy to connect the idea of a trap to the movements of the Crimson Knights. Because they have had absolutely no reason to show their supreme commander. It doesn't take a 4k IQ strategist to understand that. Why? Because YOU DON'T LET YOUR ENEMY KNOW WHERE YOUR SUPREME COMMANDER IS. Especially in a place where abnormally powerful people exist There's absolutely no way any army out there would show their supreme commander when they are winning when there's a chance for them to get assassinated. Anybody, even a kid, would realize fast that that's a trap. Even the inbred noble birth commanders at that tent. No matter how hard you argue that they ARE stupid because they're stupid, even they should realize that putting their supreme commander up front is stupid idea, unless they make sure she doesn't die. Because they have their own supreme commander and they know exactly how important he is on the battle.

And I'm not saying that the strategies should be grand, complex and absolutely breathtakingly 4k IQ. The strategy employed here is absolutely fine. That's not my point and I couldn't care about that. My problem is how the author is making Ashton look smarter than he actually is by making everybody around him stupid. CK's play shouldn't be as big of a deal as they're making it out to be because it's painfully obvious that it's a trap.

Here’s the thing, being a commander doesn’t mean one is a strategist. Usually those roles are divided as it’d be kinda idiotic to have it be one person as what would happen to their forces if the commander was too loose in battle. Them being commanders doesn’t mean that they’re strategists or that they are well versed in battle theory. A lot of times commanders are achievement hungry (where they will throw away soldier’s lives so they can get the head of the commander) or incompetent nobles who bought their positions. Truly smart and competent commanders aren’t very common and Ashton is among the competent category which is based on previous strategies he’s come up with.

Not to mention if he said something wrong then the supreme commander would have just pointed out that all of them were being idiots

Very true. Look at the General Osmund, who Olivia recently saved from the powerful enemy force. He fell for the obvious bait with the desecration of his scouts and rode into a trap. He isn't that far thinking of a strategist. And Paul recognizes he doesn't see all the angles and knows he needs to get as many options to build the best plan.

And sometimes even the smartest of generals will still end up dying like ||Ouki and Duke|| from the series Kingdom. Both were amazing strategists and powerful generals but ||both died due to being outsmarted by another general.||

Side note, Kingdom is a fantastic series to read and definitely suggest you read it

I know that. But it absolutely doesn't take a strategist to understand that this is a trap. That's what I've been saying. The trap is stupidly made, even a child with no battle experience, much less one who knows jack or shit about battle theory would understand that you don't put your most important piece into the fray when you're already winning. Sure, there's a chance they may take the bait as a last resort, but there's absolutely no way they wouldn't see it as a trap. It's a common trap, and nobody should make a big deal out of someone pointing out that it's a trap. No matter how stupid one is, they'd see it as a trap.

There are chess plays where making a seemingly irrational move is a good tactic as it confuses one's enemies. The Empire could have hoped such a blunder would have the blood-lusting Olivia, as the Empire likely sees her, jumping at the chance to kill the head of the other side.

Like i said before the reason why those commanders didnt think it was a trap was because the scouts reported there were no soldiers in the vicinity. As such they viewed this to be a golden opportunity to kill the supreme commander and get that great achievement under their belt.

Honestly you'd be surprised just how many people have fallen for what we, in hindsight, can see was an obvious trap. As an example, Alexander the Great (pretty sure that's who fell for this) was chasing after a retreating foe and fell into a trap where the enemy had troop lying in wait to hit him on all sides. You'd be surprised at how the heat of battle can make one more susceptible to falling for traps.

Bro it doesn't matter if the scouts saw jack or shit. Anybody would get suspicious if somehow the enemy commander, which you've been searching for for who knows how long, and which the enemy is deliberately hiding from you (at the cost of their own life, and even a major general's life), suddenly showed themselves smack dab in the middle of the battlefield, right there, in a silver platter. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the enemy aren't that stupid that they'd just surrender their most important piece when they don't even need to. No matter how stupid you argue these commanders are, how they are far beneath your 4k IQ intelligence that they can't even tell right from left, their movement is very, VERY suspicious. Maybe they wouldn't know what kind of trap it is, which is very reasonable, but there's absolutely no way they wouldn't see it as anything other than a trap. It's very basic man, I don't get how you can reason out that they're just too goddamn stupid to actually use their goddamn eyes. Like I've been saying, they've had absolutely no reason to bring out their supreme commander because they're already winning. I mean, what other reason is there for the CK to suddenly present their enemy the brains of their operation? Parade? Reconciliation? Mocking? Maybe mocking, that's reasonable but is a very stupid maneuver. What else comes to mind if you're in that situation? That they're surrendering? When the have absolutely no reason to?

How about you stop being a brat and attacking others for daring to disagree with you and pointing out why those commanders acted the way they did.

Why even bother scouting the area for ambushes if you think such a thing is useless. You are operating with information that those commanders didn’t have and for all they knew the enemy was just underestimating then and being cocky. It certainly would be warranted seeing as only the MC’s squad was doing well against them and the 7th army was being obliterated by their troops. When the people you trust to look for ambushes tells you that they didn’t find anyone then a normal commander would leap at the opportunity to get the head of a supreme commander.

Fact is that they weren’t being stupid but we’re acting on information that was available to them. Ashton had info they didn’t know and that’s how he came to that conclusion that they couldn’t come to. The head commanders also were able to figure it out as they have more experience than the other commanders and could use that experience to sus out what was going on. It’s easy for you to be an armchair commander and screech about how it’s obvious a trap but to the people in the actual war they didn’t realize what was going on. This is a realistic thing to happen as it has literally happened in real life where Alexander got ambushed in an obvious trap when he was chasing a retreating enemy. Was Alexander being an idiot when he fell for a trap?

Grow the f*ck up and stop lashing out at people. Be an adult instead of a petulant child.
