Honestly, from the point of view of someone that has nothing to do with Huang Lia I think that maybe being destroyed and turning into the People's Republic might be a fate worse than being crushed by Opium Sugar, being colonized and turning into giant Hong Kong.
Now, I don't mean that is a good ending either, and surely the mandate of heaven has not yet been lost to the point that Sakura and Pals can't have the new empress push enough reforms to save this sinking ship of an empire.

It really just depends on who is installed as leader at the end of everything. A fact often seen in history is that the best revolutionaries often make for the worst heads of state, especially if they primarily appoint people to key positions based on personal relationship rather than skill or merit.

In this case, with Kai orchestrating things behind the scenes, that is unlikely to happen. The revolutionary is a figurehead moving according to the will of Kai, who is politically savvy. Kai will make sure the right people are put in the right positions. Kai doesn't have ulterior motives and doesn't desire wealth nor glory, so you can't ask for a more ideal behind the scenes manipulator to make the revolution successful and enduring.

I think this author has cooked these chapters to the point where they are just mid. Hopefully he has something better planned for the future

He's definitely having the most fun playing with the tropes of Chinese history (can you even call them tropes when talking about history?) but the whole manga has been about political intrigue as much if not more than the boobs, since the very beginning.
i don't mind some boobs to accompany all these big plates of juicy polar/political intrigue :meguu:

So thinking about Albion/England makes him flaccid and easier to “influence” yin-yang transfer?

Also I fully expect this arc to get Mao Zedong-ed. But I don’t think either Imperial Russia or Soviet Union was ever presented as a global player yet. So maybe it is really just a hong-kong-taiwan style of British intervention. But having arab states present there just feels weird.

Would it really be a big deal for Kai to lose his manhood? It's not like the author/editor/publisher would ever allow him to use it to begin with :pacman:
