so legitimately the reason why not both is that if she is a spy from the nation that wants to destroy magic, she wouldn't be alive if she had nectar.

Yeah, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do start giving Kai his own accolades, even if in secret. Mind, that was something established over six to seven years ago, it wouldn't be surprising if they retcon it. Especially something like that seeing as how the passage you referred to spoke of a chronicle which in most cases is a secondary source and from the phrasing it does seem like his story has devolved into the realm of myth, meaning Kai might have just been a low ranking official in the grand scheme of things or his escapades did not survive the test of time.

The queen and one of the princes of Albion know who Gray is, Kai was forced into keep playing as Gray because he is a human and there are no humans in that world.

"Kai" cannot exist in that world without people realizing he is a Moribito, this is why he have to keep acting as Gray to the point there is no difference of Gray and Kai, its not as if for the world at large there is Gray and Kai thus rewarding Kai is irrelevant as Kai and Gray are the same person.

I suppose that chronicle just means that at one point Gray have to die and Kai appears because the author doesnt want for Gray to completely replace Kai.
