It's actually not all that weird, and It is entirely plausible that they have laser guns.. I mean, It was already stated that they've a "marebito" on their side so, even though we can't manage to make laser guns with our current technology and scientific knowledge alone, their world have a few things that ours doesn't.. Fantasy-like materials, Alchemy and Magic. :u
If you mix those together with what we have, that shouldn't be too hard to make some nasty toys.
