I find it crazy it seems like that's the common conclusion among the readers. It's such an overused trope that it immediately pops up in one's mind.
It can't be that someone just happened to have helped someone at the nick of time, surely it's a trap.
It totally feels like one, but at the same time it makes no sense for it to be one. What does the headmaster has to benefit from it? Creating a squad of loyal subjects under him? There're better ways to do that.
To exploit them via debt? Ark isn't even indebted to him specifically, she doesn't have any debt to speak of currently. She wants to become a knight in order to start the actual procedure for her brother, which the kingdom would pay for, then.

At this point I am just left wondering what sort of surprise twist this manga will come up with, in order to actually make the "trap" make any fucking sense, which is hilarious, since that leaves us still assuming that it has to be a trap, lmao.
