And I find this depiction of irrational and illogical violence to be unrealistically over the top because even slaves are valuable. On the other hand even evil is rational to a degree. You cannot control the oppressed when you are this despotic and wanton because there's zero gain (aka naked survival) for them to fall in line under these circumstance. Hence why there wouldn't be any black haired left if this is their "normalcy". It's bad writing.
The Holocaust disagrees with you. The systematic genocide of other people happens for religious reasons too - look at the Middle East today. India's caste system existed for at least 3,000 years. And you cannot control the oppressed when you are not despotic and wanton to a degree because a paper tiger will eventually be beset upon.

The fact that mana counts for actual power in this world helps explain why the black haired cannot easily fix their own situation. Unless they show up with a skill like Rick's, they will never be strong enough.

I don't know why you would bring up the Holocaust. That's a whole different scenario. If genocide was the goal in this story I would say they are inefficient but the guy I responded to compared them to (black) slaves.

Hence why I said that it doesn't make sense to treat them in such a despotic way because even if they cannot overthrow their oppressor they A) have some value as slaves and B) I don't see how they stay alive long enough to reproduce nor why they would do so in the first place instead of just either killing themselves, die trying to run or die in a tiny blaze of glory however possible.

Those are all examples of Despots ruling over people and people didn't go into a blaze of glory. It's a scenario where people were treated very despotically and yet, you don't hear about those camps going down in a blaze of glory. Ever, despite being worse than what we see in this manga. People don't go to that response when they've been systematically beaten down and are lacking power, though typically food is not quite as scarce as painted in the family.

That said, the interesting thing is things like Freya, whose Aunt is clearly not black haired, means that all of these black haired likely have family in the larger classes. And when the aunt handed over a large bag of magic stones, I was like, 'Wait, they could have traded magic stones for money for food', and that's where this whole contrived suffering that Freya hit starts to feel fake to me.
