I wonder if he accidentally pulled his own reset switch and not specifically the candy one. Would explain why he was 'dead' for a brief period of time.

Also re-reading this and I wonder if the machines and his body are somewhat intertwined. He's mostly someone else storage, and a holder of stuff to be pulled out or equiped, but maybe some of those machines are interchangeable with parts of his body. I wonder if they had anything to do with being a sickly child. If he himself can be 'reset' as I hypothesize above, than maybe similar mechanisms have something to do with why he doesn't remember anything.
