For that matter I get it. Japanese people are polite and tend to be nonconfrontation. That much is very obvious just reading and researching Japanese culture. But is finding the need to fight to protect your SO so foreign you're scared to fight. It's just something that never made sense to me.

Had friends(that are women) who would have to have us go with them when they got drinks at the bar because some dudes didn't know the word "no". Pretty sure my ex got hit on a lot when I wasn't around(and sometimes when I was)and sometimes saying something can get you a persistent asshole or a deadly one.

My point with the previous guy and manga cliches in general is just it gets boring seeing a guy be afraid all the time. Not saying he's gotta oneshot them or something but is it too much to get a guy able to hold his ground without being afraid? This just might be the disconnect from my life and Japanese life.
