I don't like this protagonist's way of thinking.
"Because my moral values say that you shouldn't abandon wounded mate I will hate yer guts if you do!"
Sorry mate, what? So self preservation is now banned? You do realise that because they are wounded right? This bear can easily smell the wounded one's location, not to mention he would slow them down.
I can with near certainty say that if they kept carrying the guy, they would have all died. If they split up and ran away, their chances of surviving would be so much greater.
I wouldn't wish my entire group of companions dead, and I would hate if they all died because they foolishly tried to fight something that they had 100% no chance of beating.
Yes, if it is viable, retreat with the wounded, but when it is not, don't do it.
This was one of the cases where it was completely not viable.
Also, what a damn hypocrite. He saw that they were wounded and that bear dropping in to attack them, but rather than act then and save them, he waited just so he could ascertain that the remaining survivors were "worth it" according to his moral values.
In my eyes he is the awful person there. He let someone that could very well have wife and kids, die a horrible death because he wanted to judge first, act later.
With his strength the act first option is extremely viable without putting any of himself at risk. So my impressions of him are currently the worst.
