Thankfully the editor manage to slap some sense to the author and avoid a trainwreck ending.

Don't like this ending to be honest, it feels like a happy ending for the sake of a happy ending. I don't even think it's that happy either. Yui desperately wants to go back living as girl, can't adjust well to having to pretend to be male, her beloved but broken family is fixed by another person and she never gets to experience that warmth she always craved, misses eight years of her youth being unable to live as girl among other things. So what's the author gonna do, resolve it organically and let us see her find the answer to her problems? No, contrive a life-or-death scenario for her beloved Yuuta and somehow the only way for her to save his life is to suck it up and continue eating shit for the rest of her life.

This manga had me hooked because it depicted an unpleasant side of genderswap and I was interested to see how the author intended to resolve it. To see it sweep all of those problems under a rug and basically say 'it's OK because she loves Yuuta' is disappointing to say the least.

I didn't like that webcomic ending but even that felt like a more natural course of events if we were to follow Yui's unresolved problem to its logical conclusion. Honestly, who would be surprised at her eventually committing suicide having to live like that and never making peace with her inner turmoil?

I am in agreement that this series didn't end as well as it could. The entire story was about the development of these two kids, but then toward the end it stopped being about that and just became a somewhat natural but somewhat forced romance story ending. This epilogue didn't really add much to change that, unfortunately, so all I can really say is that this was a good read overall, but still a bit of a let down. Could've been much worse though. The happy ending isn't entirely unwelcome, at least.

Man has this been a ride. I started this series around 5 ish years ago, my first year of highschool. Over its run, several tragedies happened in my life, and yet this stuck around. I was always excited to see a new chapter, which gave me a much needed mood boost. Now that my lifexperience has calmed down and the tragedies are being wrapped up, as is this series. This series has become a personal favorite of mine, and despite it being over, I'm glad that it got a happy ending.

@pibata They don't switch back, and Yui commits suicide in Yuuta's body because she can't come to terms with having to live as a guy (possibly due to having a crush on kazuma).

honestly I think that ending was better.
