It's respectable work. Everyone fears death, and being close to people who deal with makes them scared of what'll happen to them eventually. Especially for religious and superstitious. (I volunteered in a morgue and cemetery once, there's a stigma to it)

The only thing that doesn't make sense was the family that hired her acting like she was plagued until she gave them money (the mithril ore) and then she wasn't so bad. It was realistic, but they were waiting for her to bring back their daughter but then don't want to interact with her? That's like if I went into an auto shop today and refused to interact with the mechanic and only talked to the sales clerk and went full Karen if a mechanic even tried to ask me a question about my car.
Certain well-paying jobs just don't have good reputation even though many people desperately need their services: dentists, lawyers, or even extreme examples like assassins. You pay them a fat wad of your hard-earned cash to handle unpleasant work and you want them to take a hike once they're not needed.
Speaking of mechanics - they're not well liked where I'm from, either. They're always suspected of overcharging for their services, doing unnecessary repairs, or using cheap fixes when they know you can't tell the difference.

Uuhh... not for me, I hate when the usual and true self insert protagonist is hidden from the cover and the synopsis

and I just checked ch4 and he's still around, so he'll probably stay for the whole volume and many more just to have a "relatable" character throwing exposition and hinting for romance when I was looking for adventure, and who also seems to be from fantasy Japan too? they really wanted to make it relatable huh

And also, to make this work you actually have to make people extra obnoxious, prejudiced and stupid or else the whole stigma wouldn't work with a cute girl as the heroine... Well, I would love to be wrong but I rather not find out too late.

Why do people keep thinking this is isekai? seriously, at what part of my translation gives people the idea?????????
why also keep trying to force a non-existent romance tag? granted, there's only 7 chapters in EXISTENCE atm, idk if the author's going to throw that in, i'll have you know i am avoiding hard two things. 1. romance (i translate already plenty of that with korean novels, not looking for that in manga). 2. isekai slop, but this doesn't even remotely smells it afaic
don't just imagine some non existent tropes then trash the manga. give it a chance for fuck's sake.

@Sugarbeef @KinGrove

My thing is that a) you can apparently only tell someone's a corpse bearer by their equipment, b) she normally wears a mask, and c) this is an expensive service, so why would they let the bereaved in while the corpse bearer's still "around" if they're hated to such a ridiculous degree?

Ended up looking up real life mortuary layouts, and they're usually designed so that visitors and bodies come in through separate entrances into completely different areas.

To this degree though. To the degree where you have to wear a mask so you won't be recognized off the clock and people yell at you to get out of places.

It's annoying because they don't? They could just have stories about people who died and realistic levels of stigma about death and that would be plenty interesting.

Instead of I don't know what you'd call it, easy to high horse prejudice? When a fictional world has tons of extremely prejudiced characters who are super hostile to a cute character so you and the everyman protagonist you're meant to relate to can seem amazing in contrast.

I wonder if some recovered corpses have uncovered the crimes of others, causing them to slander the profession and increase its discrimination.

The guy going into dogeza and saying it was a sincere way of begging from his hometown did make me wonder if he was isekaied.

Really cool premise, and very strong start. Hope the guy won't be too annoying though

Even if he was reincarnated for some reason, possibly to add a side character with our world view into a foreign world, I think that would be too minor of an element of the story to call this an isekai.

They don't know what she's offering them, but imagine you're in the morgue to identify your dead family member, and the coroner decides to offer you a sandwich they pulled from a body bag because you look worn down.

Huh, I was kinda expecting this to be like Blade & Bastard where they recover adventurer corpses to be revived at the temple. But this is pretty interesting too.
Hey, that's a manga title i haven't heard for a very long time. Whatever happened to that one? I haven't heard any update for a very long time.

Light novel and manga are still ongoing and being officially translated (jnovel and yen press). Guess that's why no one's updating it.

Aw, man, it's yen press. They should be rebranding into extortion press. Their releases are so expensive.
