I tried really hard to get into the manga a couple of times - I had the complete run of US Shonen Jump Monthly up until I moved last year, and twice started reading the series only to make it to about the July 2003 issue and give up. I also tried getting into fansubs of the animation back around 2005(?), when a friend of mine was heavy into both that and Naruto, and even with the help of certain then-illicit (now nominally-legalized) substances, I couldn't do it. I refuse to watch the live-action version (on the grounds that (A) Hollywood needs to stop doing remakes and start writing original shit again, and (B) Cowboy Bebop), but the previews I've seen leave me with the same feeling of disinterest and boredom.

Yeah... I got through the angry phase somewhere shortly after 30, but 'Mildly_Irritated_Panda' doesn't quite have the same feel.

I figured it wasn't fair to write the series off without making an honest attempt to experience it; having done that, I can make the above claim without reservation.

Fun fact: The record store where I get about 75% of my purchases these days has two owners and a part timer. About twice a year, they wind up needing a fourth person for extra coverage and give me the chance to fill that spot, meaning I get to go in and do my best record store employee impersonation, kind of like Jack Black in 'High Fidelity', which brings this back around to Po, in a somewhat convoluted way.
