Robocop did a bit of a cop-out here. It'd have been more poignant if he realized that he was really doing all this because he liked to fight. I don't buy his "because of his family" story. He's just going to trust that his family will be fine? What if...

• ... the family shows up in Demonland, daughter feels better and wants to play with the other kids, and collapses?
• ... their treatment takes a backseat to some new threat, and they accidentally leave her to die?
• ... the treatment is to turn her into a slime or something?
• ... the heroic forces breach the city and start "cleansing the corrupted populace"?
• ... mom has gone nuts (or has gotten sick herself) in the time he was gone, and can't care for her?
• ... daughter blames Demon Lord for killing her father (a reasonable conclusion), and refuses treatment?

He could've stuck around incognito, if just to make sure his kid starts to recover. The story should've given us something more to explain this. Is he actually deeply depressed? Is he a good guy but really, really simpleminded? Is he a one-note character we're not meant to overthink about?

Anyway, since Henry beat Robocop, I guess he's the dad now. They'll need to make a new doll.

That's a bit reductionist. Human, from the beginning of consciousness have asked themselves what makes us human. We still have no fucking ideas, but plenty of philosophers. Hell, there's even an anime that tackle the conundrum heads on named Ghost in the Shell. If your whole body but your brain is machine, are you still human? Is there a soul?

The man is doubting his humanity, it doesn't mean he lost it. Doesn't matter if he's augmented, many humans are through spectacles helping them read. It doesn't matter if his body is mostly machine, because his ability to doubt his humanity is the very thing that makes him human.

I think it is like when veterans afraid to return to their family. Everything they have is conditioned to kill maim and murder, with PTSD one small slip end they become the danger for their own loved ones.

first his beloved daugther gets sick so it forces him to sell his service so he can earn money to treatment for her and help his wife.
slowly but steady he loses his humanity piece by piece.
then when he asked the sciencist.. he was laughed at.
He then loses more and more of himself.
he loses and was about to blow up because the very same sciencist couldn't accept him to lose.
now he gets an offer and chooses his family to be protected and treated.. and he decides to die like a man.. not like a machine.

One of the most pointless deaths i've came across in a while. He wanted to die because reasons... Why would you when you secured the protection of your family? I guess author wanted to write some tragic happenstance for the guy but fumbled it to oblivion instead. There is not enough dialog to even come up with a headcannon. He just off'ed himself and MC went along with it no questions asked which is out of character as well.

Unironically, i think the comment about artist not wanting to draw him is spot on. He has a very intricate design which is a nightmare for a reoccurring character.

Imo, it's mixed of, mostly feeling that he isn't really human anymore even if demon lord's side can regenerate him, and minor factors like he already accept his own death since the self-destruct + lost in duel, satisfied from duel with Blakin.
In a sense, while he was still alive, have chance to continue being alive, and be with family, his mental has already reached the tipping point.

I agree with this. It's extremely unlikely that he has been home for his wife and daughter to see him, only receiving money (and maybe letters) in his name from all the war and battle he's been through. He definitely knows that they wouldn't want to see him as he is now, not to mention that he himself likely doesn't consider himself "human" anymore and thus unfit to return to regular life as one.

Also the ones that hired him may want to retaliate against his family for his "treason", if he's dead that reason disappears.

My take on it is that by the time he was questioning his humanity, he had already given up on living, and the only thing keeping him going was the desire to provide for his family. With Dwight's offer essentially guaranteeing them a better life, even that last motivation was gone.

What's interesting is that people trying to come up with why he made that choice can only speculate if not outright guess. The writer could have made some interesting point, gestured towards something more but chose to give a weirdly mysterious ending to a side character with barely any time in the story that gives us so many possibilities that it gives us none.

Why did he do it? Who the hell knows. What does that tell us? Vagueness that the writer hopes you'll interpret in a nice way yourself, if I had to guess.

And all he wanted was security for his family, which Dwight offered. He even rejected the offer to retire and live with his family in the city. Still, he would've been a cool teammate to Henry. F.

I was fucking rooting for this guy to switch sides after the bomb was disabled. I was pogging, dreaming we were getting a goddamn Space Marine bent on getting revenge once the demon king fixed him up.

I predicted the demon king was going to demonstrate how good the demon realm had become. I even held out hope he would retire peacefully... but I didnt expect this
