i mean if i have to explain, i understand the family situation, what i don't understand was him lashing out on his childhood friend. imagine the last person who cares about you in the world and you pushed them away because they're trying to help you. that's what made me mad about him.

Oh I can DEFINITELY attest to that cuz it actually happened to me myself. A childhood friend of mine had her dad basically going bankrupt soon, her mom in severe debt, and all this shit was going to get pushed upon her soon. She ended up pushing her entire friend circle away because she no longer trusts anyone even though all we did was support her at her weakest moment during that period.

I am not saying that he isn't being a dumbass, but when you are at your weakest point sometimes you just... don't process shit thoroughly until it's too late.

Well lashing out at people and pushing people away have always been one of the many big giveaways and symptoms of depression, certainly after going throuhg all that, he must have been in pretty deep depression. It's easy to ask why people do stupid shit like that from an outside perspective but be aware that they're not exactly in the healthiest state of mind. When it comes to this, telling them "Just get better" "Let people in" "Open up more" directly would sometimes cause more harm than help, it's complicated and different people are affected by depression differently. Sometimes they smile through it, sometimes they just off themselves, sometimes they WANT to get help but don't know how, etc...

Sometimes people with depression push people away bc they simply don't want to get hurt anymore, among other things.

When someone is at their lowest point, as a friend you are supposed to give them assurance that if they ever want to or decide to start moving on with life, you'll be there to lend a hand. That's it. Your duty as a friend ends there.
