@Tatsuya-Kai There's a way to let baddies live and still lower the risk of them trying something later. You just have to chop off their limbs, mute, blind and make them deaf, that way they still live (doesn't break dumb pacifist no killing policy), and without any ability to communicate, they can't implement any evil revenge they might think of. It'll also serve as punishment and warning to others. Violence and pacifism all in one! 😃

@gussygoose that's kind of illogical. Will you monitor a "bad" guy until he becomes good? If someone has made something irredeemable, than it's better for that person to be excluded from society, either in form of isolation or death.
Japanese mcs often let some bandits escape or just threaten them, but how will they make sure those bandits will stop doing bad things, if you let them live, it becomes your responsibility. It is neither ethically nor morally correct, if there were some bandits killing merchants and hero allowed them to go or in some other form let them remain active, then he also allowed their future actions. It's not like hero can return lives to the people those bandits may kill.

Naturally, the drama at the beginning of the chapter could have been perfectly avoided by executing your enemies, but no, the MC needs to remain an idiot otherwise the author will run out of antagonists.

@gussygoose "Ethics and manners" can and should be thrown out the window if the story's antagonists have only 1 dimension, which happens to be being pure evil for the lulz. Every time a MC in these stories lets bandits, murderers and rapists go away with a slap on the wrist, they're not going to volunteer at an orphanage to raise the children, they'll just be extra cruel to their next victims as revenge.

@WoodyCyber May I ask you why? he left already, so he had nothing to do with king's torture. he took part in a war, siding with a racist country, yes, but to his defense, he don't really know it better, all of the people around him are calling beastmen evil. and from what I remember, he is beginning to notice that there is something off. he also clearly recognized our mc but were clever enough to not call him out, probably because he knew he would only cause problems to our mc if he would do that. so my prediction is that there will be a period of struggle ahead of him but one day he will see what kind of people he supported and switch sides

as for many others here: you are quite bloodthirsty, aren't you? saying our mc should just kill everyone who opposes him - there may be cases, were letting the villain live is the worse way, especially if it's the second time, but for the first time... tell me where do you draw the line? if someone killed another one? but is a soldier who kills as part of duty a worse human than his leader who maybe never actually killed someone but gave the order to do so? fact is, the death penalty has never led to a peaceful society, more of the opposite
