Destroying the local economy? It's screwed anyway, since they have a food shortage. Maybe it'll drive the misfarming cartel out of business and pave way to proper food production in the end.
Economics isn't all about protecting existing businesses. It's about new businesses appearing as necessary and driving out the ones who are bad at their work or too greedy.

considering the 'food shortage' unless he's been having someone pick up crops off screen to be sent to the king, i'm surprised that the royal guards haven't tracked them down unless they're fine with him selling the meat and veggies in the market versus giving them for free assuming the king's been sending him a stipend/letting him live on the land and such versus "do what you want as long as you don't leave the country/swear loyalty to a diff faction"
